From Childhood Dreams to Professional Builder.
Ben’s Story.
Ben’s journey into carpentry began with a simple childhood dream: “I always had a desire to build a house, so I just started learning everything involved in building a house.” What started as building play houses with his siblings in the Ohio woods eventually led to working at his grandpa’s log cabin, learning millwork and custom trim techniques that most contractors never experience.
After spending four years mastering fine carpentry and precision work at a custom cabinet shop in Ohio, Ben moved to Michigan where he spent nearly seven years with a custom home builder. There he developed the project management skills and problem-solving experience that define his approach today. “You’re always going to run into some sort of problem on a job site. It’s about learning how to deal with it and creating a better outcome because of it.”
Today, Ben operates Benjamin’s Custom Carpentry as a licensed Michigan builder with over 12 years of professional experience. His background in custom cabinetry gives him an attention to detail that sets his finish work apart, while his project management experience ensures smooth workflow from estimate to completion. As an owner-operated business, clients communicate directly with the person doing the work, someone who’s been building and problem-solving since childhood and has the experience to handle projects from simple handyman work to complete home additions.

Initial Consultation
We start with a phone discussion to understand your project scope and vision, ensuring we’re a good fit for your needs.
Site Visit & Assessment
I visit your home to take detailed measurements, assess the space, and discuss your specific goals and preferences for projects in Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, and surrounding areas.
Design & Estimate
You’ll receive a comprehensive proposal including project designs, scope of work, timeline, and pricing. For smaller projects, this includes the final design. Larger projects may involve additional design refinement.
The Build
Once you approve the proposal, we schedule your start date and order materials. I manage the entire workflow from demo and framing through coordinating licensed subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work, then completing all the finish work including drywall, trim, cabinetry, and flooring.
Completion & Walkthrough
We do a final walkthrough together to ensure everything meets your expectations and you’re ready to fully use and enjoy your transformed space.
